The Best Girl Gift

We’ve been on the mad hunt for the new Superhero Squad figures and as a result, we are visiting every Target in the state of NJ…ok – not every Target in NJ – just the ones in Union County.  Last night, we hit up another Target where unfortunately there were no new Superhero Squad figures, but there were Valentine’s to be purchased!  CheezWaster has been quite eager to pick out his Valentine’s Day gift for “his best girl” at nursery school.  Below is what he picked out: a stuffed hippo that says “I’m Hip On You” on the box of heart candies, a Princess Chocolate box that says, “Valentine, You’re Enchanting”, and the Cupcake Sweet Bag.  I suggested a plain red bag with hearts, but CheezWaster just loved this one with the cupcakes!  I also picked out the Sandra Boynton card.  It was one of the least sappy kids cards I could find.  Doesn’t anyone make cute crush cards for the nursery school set?  Hallmark – you need to get on that ASAP!  You are totally missing out on major market share here!

Color My Tissue Box

Have you seen the new Up & Up brand and Target?  I’ve been working my way through trying their new items, but one in particular caught my attention.  The Tissue Boxes!  They are a (cheap – 99 cents) craft project for your kids (or you if your bored  – doodle while on hold anyone?!) waiting to happen.  The tissue boxes are white and have a black outlined design on them.  Our local Target had 2 designs – Trucks and Circus.  I gave each of the kids a tissue box and some crayons and awaited a beautiful addition to my bathroom.  CheezWaster was so proud of his truck box that he insisted I move the normal tissue box in our living room somewhere else, so that his could be featured prominently. Ah – my budding little artist!

Oh no – not my Target

Recently, a new Target store opened on the other side of town from the existing Target store.  After last night’s shopping trip, I’m seriously wondering if they are going to be closing the Rt. 22 (Union, NJ) store.  LOTS of stuff has the infamous little red mark down tickets on it – and I’m not talking about seasonal items.  I’m talking like socks, men’s shirts, underwear, pajamas, etc. – everyday stuff.  This particular store has been seriously lacking in the boys’ clothes section lately (but, really?  doesn’t this section always lack???), as well as the dollar spot.  I think this weekend, I’m going to have to hit the new Target and see if all the same stuff is on sale there.  Big plus on that is that the new Target is in the same complex and the super, new and improved Whole Foods (with a Ciao Bella sorbet bar……..mmmmmmmmmmmm!)

My Little Smart-Ass

Daily enlightenment from my 2.5 year old……………

(scene setting – pantry in the basement)

CheezWaster: Mama – where are the fruit snacks?

Me: We don’t have anymore.  We only have organic fruit strips now.

CheezWaster: I don’t believe you.

* Seriously – there are no more sugar treats of death fruit snacks.  Move over Diego, Nemo, Cars and Scooby.  Archer Farms is the new sheriff in town!

Shopping with Kids

Earlier this morning, my mom ventured to the grocery store with my 2 kids (I’m at work today, so the tiny tots are with Oma and Opa).  She called to ask me “How the hell do you shop with 2 kids?”  Well, 1) I never grocery shop with the 2 kids (see my earlier post on Online Grocery Shopping) – it is near impossible since a toddler and an infant car seat take up every last bit of space in the cart. 2) When I do shop, I generally try and hit the Walmart and Target type stores since on the odd chance I forgot something while online grocery shopping, I can generally find it at one of these places.  In our area, the Target is right next to the Babies R Us, so we’ve been killing 2 birds with one stone lately.  And I must admit there is one saving grace about me taking my toddler (and my infant) to Target – the $2 pretzel and a drink combo (plus tax) at the Target Cafe.  CheezWaster loves going to Target just knowing he’s going to get a pretzel and when we pass one and don’t stop, he begins to freak out about “needing” a pretzel.  You’d be surprised how much sanity $2.14 can buy!  Once he has his pretzel and Icee (his special Target treat!) he is the Golden Child – there is very little, if any, whining and usually he is so consumed with eating and drinking, that he doesn’t even ask for anything – even when we pass the toys.  And, he wants to stay in the cart because he’s eating and drinking (add walking to this and my toddler turns into an even clumsier oaf!)  If you don’t want to lay out the 2 bucks, I highly suggest packing a snack and sippy cup for the store.  Snacks = Enjoyable Shopping Experience!
