The Bitter End

Yesterday, CheezWaster wore his last diaper.  By choice?  No – Not really.  He was all but fully potty trained until the damn peacock attack.  Since then he has used the potty sporadically, but not with any real consistency.  I tried the bare ass thing.  I tried the underwear thing.  And I cleaned up pee from the floor.  So, I told CheezWaster that once this pack of diapers was gone, he was going to have to wear Pull-Ups.  We started doing the countdown a few days ago.  Firstly, I have 4 packs of Pull-Ups from the summer when he was actually using the potty and he is just about at the weight limit.  Secondly, he is more than capable and old enough to start using the potty.  I’m not totally sure this is going to work either, but it is worth a try.  We gave him a treat (a Star Wars book – yes, I feed the obsession!) for wearing the Pull-Ups and using the potty yesterday and I’m hoping that it will be a small amount of incentive to keep it going.  We keep telling him that diapers are for little boys like The Sleep Deprivator and since he is a big boy, he needs to wear big boy pants.  I will keep the online world informed of our progress.

PROGRESS REPORT: Today – Day 2 – refused to put on Pull-Ups for Opa until Opa called Mommy and Mommy talked to the Big Boy on the phone.  Number of times on the toilet as of 1:55 pm – ZERO!

They have returned!

My parents returned home from their trip to the Fatherland Germany yesterday and you know what that means???

  1. Free dinners! (yeah!) – yes, my parents cook us dinner on the nights I work.  Oh, how I love them!
  2. Free childcare! (yeah!) – yes, my parents watch my kids while I work.  Oh, how I love them!
  3. Me back at work (UGH!) – I really enjoyed staying home everyday with the boys for 2 weeks, but my mortgage payment calls!
  4. CheezWaster using the potty - OR SO HE SAID BEFORE THEY LEFT!

CheezWaster made a deal with my parents before they left that he was going to use the potty when Oma and Opa came back from Germany.  As I talked to him about it this past week in preparation, he told me he would only use our potty, but not theirs (are there monsters in their potty???)  This is the kid who used the potty like a champ over the summer until the infamous peacock attack, the antibiotics and the resulting diarrhea from said antibiotics.  Since then he has randomly chose to use the potty at will including once pooping in the potty (ironically not our potty, but Aunt Ruth and Uncle Murph’s potty on our most recent vacation to Virginia).  Though, he seems to have no real desire to potty train.  I’ve just begun the bribery technique which seems to be working quite nicely for my friend Rachel and her daughter.  CheezWaster has a potty training chart from over the summer where he needs just 3 more stickers to get “the BIG sticker”.  I told him if he got the big sticker I would get him KungFu Panda – a movie I’ve been hesitant to buy since my son’s new found love of kicking other kids’ asses with his kung fu like moves.  He seems interested when I mention it but has yet to follow through.  We shall see how this week and the monster potty at my parents’ house goes.  Wish us luck!

In Training

My battles with The Sleep Deprivator continue.  While he has greatly improved to only waking once a night, he still does not sleep through the night (at 8.5 months old) and it kills me to listen to him cry it out.  We’re also working on the potty training with CheezWaster, who only seems to be motivated on Wednesdays when he sees his older friends use the potty (I’m thinking of telling him that everyday is Wednesday!).  I’ve been trying to take the laid back approach and let him tell me when he’s ready.  Generally, he is good about telling me when he pees, but the pooping…that is another story.  Unless it is explosive, he will deny, deny, deny (in complete shame and embarrasment) until I drag him kicking and screaming (and smelling!) to the changing room!  We go for doctor’s appointments in a few weeks, where I’ll be begging for some potty training and sleep training advice.  Looks like the kids aren’t the only ones in training.  I’m definitely in need of some “teacher” training because clearly whatever the hell I’m doing, isn’t working (that great anyway)!
