Go Go Kiddo = Go Go AWESOME

I finally jumped into the 21st century and got a smart phone.  My husband and I picked up DROID RAZRs.  My first go with the phone was sketchy at best.  We picked up our phones on Sunday and by Monday, mine wasn’t working properly.  Verizon replaced the phone and now it is fine.  My husband’s crapped out by Wednesday, which Verizon also replaced (thank goodness for those insurance plans).  Apparently, we got phones from a bad batch.

Since my kids have been dying to play Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja, I downloaded those apps first.  BUT, I really wanted some good kids apps that were fun AND educational.  Unfortunately, most of the great stuff available for IPhones is NOT available for the DROID. (Come on developers – show us some DROID love!)  I started searching on some of their favorite characters, but most of the games that included them had awful reviews.  Then, I stumbled upon Go Go Kiddo on Amazon’s list of Top Droid Apps.  It had everything I was looking for – education and fun, ala Angry Birds style.

Go Go Kiddo - a fun and educational DROID app

The game includes several activities:

Letter Launch – Trace letters, hear their sounds, and then launch them from a slingshot in this game. Knock down structures and pop bubbles to collect the letters needed to complete words. There are 36 levels of letter fun for children to tackle as they earn stars and unlock stickers.
Magic Elevator – Kids love pressing elevator buttons, right? Choose a floor and watch as the doors open and reveal something funny.
Creative Keys – This keyboard is more than just a piano. It’s a recording studio and sound effects generator. Children can follow along to learn songs or create their own music, and then watch the Go Go Kiddo characters dance to them.
Trace ‘n’ Race – In this entertaining game, kids trace a number and then race against the clock to touch all the characters displaying that number. The activity offers five different types of races and 36 levels of number fun.
My Stickerbook – Hours and hours of creative fun are unlocked in the stickerbook activity. It includes seven backgrounds and 450 stickers, allowing children to craft unlimited creations. Plus, on devices that have cameras, they can take photos to use as backgrounds or make funny faces.
Go Go Tunes – Go Go Kiddo’s lovable characters–Amber, Mac, Pip, Tenny, and Lily–star in a number of funny two-minute cartoon episodes that teach social skills around topics such as sharing, avoiding bullying, and respecting others.
Jokes and Riddles – Kids will laugh out loud at these riddles and knock-knock jokes from goofy and endearing characters Zooney and Gooney.
Sharing – After creating wonderful works of art in Go Go Kiddo’s Stickerbook activity, children can save them to the Camera Roll and send them to their friends and parents on their Facebook pages.

Both my 6 year old and 4 year old LOVE playing this game.  With so many choices, they are never bored.  The app costs $2.99 and is TOTALLY worth it.  We purchased ours from the Amazon App Store.

Disclaimer: I was in NO way compensated for this review.  This is simply a great app that we found on Amazon that I thought you and your children would enjoy.

Things We’ve Been Enjoying Lately

I wasn’t ecstatic when the boys picked out this movie at the library, but it turned out to be great!  Enjoyed by all! – Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’hoole.

Tasty homemade spaetzle and lettuce from the garden (what’s left of it after the local bunny population devoured most of it).

Monster Mini Golf - one of these just opened in our town.  Man – where were places like this when I was a kid???  CheezWaster I’m sure will want to have a future birthday party there (and the party room is killer – seriously – it looks like a haunted mansion – how cool!)

1001 Bugs to Spot – My mom spotted this in a store while they were on vacation and had to bring it home to The Destroyer.  He just LOVES looking at bugs (and unfortunately for them crushing them when he is done….hey…we don’t call him The Destroyer for nothing!)  Not only is this a great look and find book, it also lists all of the names of the bugs on the pages making it a great learning book as well.  If your kids aren’t into bugs, these books come in all different genres – 1001 Pirate Things to Spot, 1001 Animals to Spot, 1001 Things to Spot in the Sea, 1001 Things to Spot in Fairyland, etc.  There is something for everyone!  These would also be great for plane trips or long car rides!

Jem and the Holograms - THANK YOU The Hub!  My favorite childhood show makes it’s triumphant return! After telling the basic gist of this as a bedtime story, my boys think it is Totally Outrageous!  ;)

Trio Battle

My floors have been covered with Trio pieces as of late.  My sons AND my husband have been having a battle of the (and I quote the CheezWaster) Most Super Coolest Best Trio Ever.

Battle of The Trio Creations Entry #1

This was CheezWaster’s lastest creation, of which he was so proud………..right up until he saw this:

Battle of The Trio Creations Entry #2

See what happens when 1) you are 4 and 2) Daddy is an Engineer and is unemployed?!  Guess who wins the Battle of the Trio Creations???

Way too much free time on his hands!

The boys (ALL OF THEM) love the Trios.  They are easy to put together – even for the Destroyer – and he loves the click they make so he knows they are snapped in place.  Items range from small, VERY reasonably priced sets (about $10)like Airplanes (which makes an airplane, helicopter, glider) and Boat (makes a boat, a yacht, a sub) to big sets that make castles and farms.  They even just came out with some new sets that are based on the DC Comics and include Batman, Superman, Joker, Mr. Freeze.  We’ve picked up a few for Christmas already because I’m sure they are going to be a hot item!  There is also a big tub of trios that includes various pieces for creative building.  These things are great.  They keep the kids (and quite often the parents) busy for hours.  We like to take the small sets on trips or to non-kid friendly events like formal parties or dinners.

Looking for some for your kids (or your husband)?  Check them out in our Shop!  Remember – if you purchase anything from our Shop, it means I can buy my husband more Trios!!!

Bucket O’ Dragons

Let's Play Dragons!

My boys love figures.  Figures of any kind…….super heroes, star wars, playmobil.  They play with them, carry them everywhere and even sleep with them (so much for all of those stuffed animals in their room).  The latest “IT” toy in our house is a bucket of How to Train Your Dragon dragons.  I found this at Walmart and it became an instant hit.  All I hear from The Destroyer now is “Mama – let’s play dragons in the kitchen”.  For an adult, at first glance, there isn’t anything all that special about these dragon/viking figures.  It’s a bucket of figures – monkeys, dragons.  You know.  But when you take them out you will see that these are no dollar store army men type figures.  1) They actually stand up.  All of them.  2) They are impeccably detailed.  Hiccup looks exactly like he did in the movie – as do all of the other figures.  3) They are color coordinated.  Let’s face it folks – there are a couple of dragons, a couple of vikings and they all have weird names.  Now I’m supposed to remember which dragon goes with which viking?  Problem solved!!!

Not only do we set these up and knock them down over and over, they would make great party favors or even cupcake toppers!  And with the movie release date almost upon us – this would make a cute little surprise gift! Don’t ya think???

You can find these at your local Walmart or here in our Shop!

HAVE FUN!

Dinosaur Dig

CheezWaster received this My First Dino Kit for his birthday.

My First Dino Kit

I had been saving it for a rainy day or wicked hot day and yesterday turned out to be the perfect day to try it (since our Board of Ed screwed up my plan for the day by altering the time of pre-school orientation without notifying the parents).  This kit includes 3 activities – a real dinosaur dig for bones, a build your own glow in the dark dinosaur and a grow a dinosaur.  The kit also includes a pair of safety goggles and 2 tools – a brush and a digger’s pick – for the dinosaur dig activity.  We started out with the grow a dinosaur activity.  I mean who doesn’t love these little things that grow in water.  I know I do.  Ours is still “growing” in the cup at home.  Tonight we will measure to see the difference in size.  Then, we moved onto the dinosaur dig.  Safety goggles are a MUST!

Safety First!

Then, we began our intense hunt for dino bones.  I grabbed an old cardboad box for this, as it was quite messy.  You definitely want to keep this contained.  My one negative comment about this set was that it only came with one digging tool.  2 kids – 1 tool = major problems!  The Destroyer was only happy so long using the brush before he, too, wanted to dig.  We improvised and I gave him a wooden chop stick which worked great!  Conflict successfully avoided!

Digging for Dinosaurs

We dug on this thing for a while and it really kept the kids’ attention.  We’re still not done, so big plus for mom that this activity will spill over into another day!

Is that a dinosaur bone I see???

Eventually, we put the glow in the dark dino together, too.  And when I say “we”, I mean my husband.  Given my limited engineering skills, I had to call the man in for this one.

All in all, I think this kit is great.  It is reasonably priced AND educational.  AND it was great fun for a toddler and pre-K-er.

It would make a great birthday or Christmas gift, especially if you’ve got a dino lover!  This would also make a great dinosaur birthday party activity…hmmmm….this has got me thinking.  I do have 2 winter birthdays coming up!
