Call Out the Co-Worker?

In this shiteous economy, when you have co-worker who is not pulling their weight, do you: 1) just let it go, suck it up and do all of the work and be happy that you are employed or 2) look like a douche for calling them out during your yearly review, potentially making you look like a bigger asshole than them?

Eat at your Own Risk

Want to know what happens when you forget to add water to the cake mix you are using to make cupcakes?

Accidental Cupcakes

Accidental Cupcakes

They don’t look too bad, right?!  I was attempting to make funky tie dye looking cupcakes for a birthday party when suddenly the Destroyer, true to his name, managed to knock over my cup of water for the mix all over the counter.  In all of the hustle and bustle of cleaning up, I forgot to add the water to the batter.  And of course didn’t realize this until I was literally sticking the cupcakes in the oven (talk about an oh shit moment!).  The fact that I only had enough batter for 12 cupcakes rather than the 24 the box mentioned should have been the big warning sign.  But, hey, I’m no Betty Crocker.  I honestly think the applesauce and the egg whites saved my ass majorly!  Needless to say, a little frosting (from the can of course – after this disaster, I wouldn’t dare attempt homemade) and some decorator’s sugar and these were just fine – a little too sweet, but edible (and spongy).  OK – gotta run – Martha Stewart is calling me.

Soy Story

Hallelujah to Bon Appetit Magazine for printing THIS ARTICLE. It’s nice to know that 1) I’m not the only freak out there and 2) people truly are aware of the potential dangers of soy.

Final Destination

You know in the Final Destination movies how the kids start to see things that indicate death is upon their doorstep?  For instance, the scene in which the kids are in the subway and all of the ads are from the places where their friends perished?  Well, apparently I’m going out by means of a stroke.  Or so this week would indicate.  First, I get 2 emails about strokes – 1 on how to identify a stroke and 1 on the symptoms of strokes.  Then, my mom leaves me an article about migraine headaches and strokes.  This morning I read a stat fact in the new issue of Parents magazine that states women who develop preeclampsia during pregnancy have an increased risk of stroke.  Did I mention that The Destroyer was 5 weeks early due to my massively high blood pressure caused by preeclampsia and that I have a raging migraine today?  Yeah….see what I mean?!

Expected

I live in a world where certain things are expected of me.  We all do to some extent, I suppose.  I am expected to act a certain way, dress a certain way, do my job a certain way, raise my kids a certain way – at least in the eyes of those who dictate these expectations.  What I don’t like is when these expectations cross my “how I want to live my life” line and when the rules seems to be different for other people.  Should it not also be expected that at some point I’m going to stand up for myself?  I, personally, think expectations just set you up for disappointment.  So, here’s to me spending yet another day of my life being someone else’s disappointment.
